Artist's Comments

Uh, yeah. I decided to enter :iconkankakanka: and :iconpearleden:'s contest. Please don't hurt me. -flails-

Anyways, this is Seishu, an Oriental sea dragon. His element is water and his name means "Living Reef". Some interesting features he carries are his large vestigial Gorgonian wings (which are rather used for decorative purposes than flying), coral horns, a tubeworm tail, seashell ears, and a whole lot of seaweed for a mane and such. He also carries two elemental water orbs that contain his soul; one in his right front claw and the other in his left rear claw. If one or both of the orbs happen to be seperated from Seishu, the reef attached to him begins to die and lose it's color, which weakens him and slowly drains away his life. However, if one or both of the orbs are destroyed, he is destroyed as well. So basically, this guy has a good grip on those little buggers.

Man, I worked a long time on this and still didn't obtain the satisfaction I expected from it. I feel I could've done better...

Amazing. Hey, for the text in the corner, not the english but the text that looks like its been inked on with a brush, with the kanji (sorry, my knowledge of oriental language fails me at the moment.) did you use a special brush or how did you make it? Cause i have been itching to make some stuff that look like brushwork, but haven't any idea how I would do so...:D

Nope, just coloring the lineart makes it look like that. The lineart took about a day due to my mad procrastination skills. And I forgot to mention about the shell ears in the description! Haha, thanks for pointing that out.

I just use a regular brush (with pen pressure set on; THAT'S VITAL), and go back in and add details to the writing, like faded paint or tiny cracks, with the eraser set at a pretty low opacity.

I agree with FoxSoul - the wings are really something. Great work on them, and the seaweed mane! I Like the detail of the seastar and those orange frond-ish things. Favorite!
